The City of Greer Police Department is always looking for ways to keep the community safe.
“There are two spots that are monitored by camera that feeds into our dispatch and there’s an emergency button if needed,” Lt. Chris Forrester said.
Lt. Chris Forrester is talking about these two safe zone spots located in the public safety parking lot off of West Poinsett Street.
“It allows people to meet up for maybe craigslist or eBay or Facebook marketplace purchases where it provides a safe place for them to exchange whatever they have bought,” Forrester said.
People often use these spots for purchases and sales, but also for a safe custody exchange.
“We have it used quite a few times during the week, and especially on the weekends as people are doing child, custody exchanges,” Lt. Forrester said.
The safe zone spots also allow the Police Department to respond in the case that something does go wrong.
“Add time so we do have incidents where people are robbed and that sort of thing and we want them to be able to feel safe when they are able to purchase things on social media,” Forrester said.
Forrester says these spots allow people to avoid meeting up at their homes or other businesses.
“It just provides a safe place for people to meet up and take care of those transactions that may need to happen,” Lt. Forrester said.
