The City of Greer Police Department headed to three different neighborhoods for this year’s National Night Out.
“Three different locations across the city for us to get out and spend some time with our neighbors and our community members,” said Lt. Chris Forrester.
Lt. Chris Forrester says even with the postponed date due to Hurricane Helene, the community turned out.
“It’s what we expected. We had no doubt that our citizens would turn out to spend time with us and us with them. We’ve had a great turnout this year,” Forrester said.
People like Sylvia Jones, who say something like this was even more needed now.
“Especially this year, I think it was great to put something like this together to bring people back after the hurricane,” Jones said.
Jones says it shows the character of the community.
“Just a testament that we all made it through the hurricane and bring back that closeness as this neighborhood has always been,” Jones said.
She says the opportunity to engage with law enforcement and first responders in a fun atmosphere is crucial for the community.
“People have so many different questions that they need and this is the greatest opportunity to do so,” Jones said.
It’s an event that people in Greer can expect to see for years to come.
“Hopefully, we will continue to do even more for the neighborhood,” Jones said.
“We will have this year after year as long as the organization is still up and running it’s something that we wanna do as a police department and just have that engagement with our citizens,” Forrester said.
