Below are a few tips to start and maintain a healthy habitat:
Plant Milkweed (host plant for Monarch eggs and caterpillars)
Handpick weeds, Do not use roundup around butterfly gardens and milkweed plants
Contact our department, "The Southern Monarch" on Facebook, or local citizens that raise Monarchs if you find a Monarch caterpillar on your plants (Only 1 out of every 100 eggs will become a butterfly if left in the wild)
Talk to your HOA/Neighborhood about planting Milkweed inside your retention pond area
Consider planting Milkweed on large tracks of land that may go uncut for several months during the spring/summer/fall
