Tennis in Greer is growing fast!

Our Facility

Come join us at the beautiful George Crossland Tennis Courts, located adjacent to the Tryon Recreation Center. The incredible facility has 6 hard courts (open to all residents) and 3 clay courts (open for TAG members and for residents to rent for a small fee) in a beautifully landscaped park setting. The City of Greer Parks, Recreation & Tourism Department is proud to have such a fine tennis facility for the all residents of Greer to enjoy.

The Tryon Recreation Tennis Center is located right off of West Poinsett Street in downtown Greer.

Our Programs

Patrick Wood Tennis is excited to offer a full tennis program, including:

  • Fun special events including new junior and adult tennis activities

  • Junior camps

  • Junior clinics

  • Private and group lessons

  • USTA adult league play

Doug's Tennis Group

Come play in Doug's Tennis Group on Monday through Thursday from 9 to 11 a.m. All ages and all skill levels are welcome. Average age is 76 years old. For details, call 864-244-5404.

Tennis Association of Greer (TAG) Membership

Yearly Membership Fees

  • City Residents: $100

  • Individual (Age 17 and Up): $120

Fees must be paid for the year in advance. Pro-rated from January to December. A great bargain!

Benefits

  • No USTA Team Tennis fees for TAG members

About Patrick Wood

Past Experience

Patrick began teaching in 1989. His career started at the Adidas Tennis Camps at Pepperdine University in Malibu, California and at the University of California Irvine in Irvine, California. From there, Patrick became Assistant Teaching Professional at Brentwood Country Club in Los Angeles, California.

After two years at Brentwood, Patrick then made the move to Director of Tennis and Head Teaching Professional at the Quail Tree Racket Club in Harrison, Arkansas.

After four years in Arkansas, he then moved onto two excellent seasonal jobs, with St. Louis, Missouri being home base. At Sunset Tennis Center in St. Louis, teaching indoors for 9 months and at Castine Golf, Tennis and Yacht Club in Castine, Maine for 3 months a year. Patrick served as a staff professional at Sunset and as Director of Tennis and Head Teaching Professional in Castine for a great 5-year stint. Patrick then settled in at the Pine Bluff Country Club in Pine Bluff, Arkansas for 8 years as Director of Tennis and Head Teaching Professional.

Arrival in Greer, SC

Patrick and his family now reside in the Greer area. After a year at Brookstone Meadows in Anderson as Head Teaching Professional, Patrick is proud and excited to head up a full tennis program here at beautiful Tryon Park. Patrick brings more than 30 years of experience in instructing and coaching all ages and levels of players in private or group settings.

Patrick enjoys teaching here with his unique style as well as running camps, tournaments, and special events. The emphasis is on growing the game of tennis in the City of Greer with fun and fitness for all!
